THE RING
This diamond ring won a Bronze Award in the 2011Best Awards in the Consumer Product Category. Platinum and gold are tensioned to hold a beautiful radiant cut diamond.
INSPIRATION
Walking past a building site and observing the bucket from a digger lying in the mud, the image of this ring immediately sprang into mind. I wanted to create a ring that clasped a diamond like the jaws of the bucket. The hard dramatic curves of the bucket are carried into the platform for the diamond.
THE DESIGNER
Ian Douglas has spent his life appreciating, designing and building beautiful pieces of jewellery. Ian has the innate ability to analyse a client’s desires and create for them designs which both fulfil and enhance their dream jewellery. He has built up an enviable reputation in New Zealand for unique jewellery.Ian’s goal in the jewellery industry has always been to be the best. This is evidenced by being named the Apprentice of the Year early in his career. This has set the course for a promising future. More recently he was recognised in his nomination for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.His business practice has always been to be open, honest and he values his reputation of being totally reliable in an industry which does not always value these concepts. He has built up a standing in the New Zealand community as a stalwart supporter of charities and the arts.
THE JEWELLER
Apprenticed in the mid 70’s, Nigel has extensive experience in crafting jewellery in Wellington. Nigel was a well deserved winner in the National Jewellery Design Awards in 2010. Windsurfing, mountain biking and foremost his family, are Nigel’s passions. Also a keen modeller, his toy boats and helicopters are also the work of an artist, although we suspect his helicopter fascination hides a desire to actually fly a real one.Finalist in the NZ Jewellery Design Awards 2008 and Winner in 2010.
